fix: share to end-to-end encrypted rooms from the share extension - #7865
The share extension ("Share to Rocket.Chat" from Photos, Files or another app) never listed end-to-end encrypted rooms. A blanket if (item.encrypted) return null in the share list, added with mobile file encryption (#5678), hid every encrypted DM and private room on both platforms. On workspaces that encrypt new DMs and private rooms by default, most recent private conversations couldn't be reached from the share sheet.
Sending already went through the encrypted path: the share extension uses the same ShareView, sendAttachments and sendMessage as the room's + button. What was missing was a guard, so this change replaces the filter with checks:
Share list: encrypted rooms appear in the list and in search. A room that can't be shared to yet is shown disabled, with the reason as its subtitle. These are the same checks the room view uses:
"Enter your E2EE password to share here" when the user's E2EE password hasn't been entered on this device.
"Waiting for encryption keys" when the room key hasn't reached the user yet.
The list re-renders when encryption finishes initializing.
ShareView: in the share extension, before sending, Encryption.canSendToRoom(rid) waits for the encryption client and checks the room's session key. If the key isn't there, it shows the existing "Check back in a few moments" alert and sends nothing. ShareView opened from a room skips this check, because the room composer already blocks rooms without a key, and still closes before anything is awaited.
encryptFile fails closed: it used to upload the plain file when an encrypted room had no session key. That was unreachable from the room view, which blocks the composer in that state, but reachable from a cold-start share. It now throws instead, matching encryptMessage, which already refused to send. The upload then shows as failed with a retry button instead of staying on "Uploading". Plain upload is kept when E2EE is off for the workspace or file encryption is disabled.
Room handshake settles when no key is available: when a room's handshake ends without a key (it requested the key from other members, or importing it failed), handshakes that were waiting on it are now rejected instead of hanging forever. getRoomInstance catches that and returns null, which its callers already handle. The next handshake for the room starts fresh. This is shared encryption code, so it applies outside sharing too.
DirectoryItem: new disabledReason prop. The row is dimmed, screen readers read the reason as the accessibility hint, and tapping shows it as a toast instead of pressing. iOS uses NativeListRow's existing disabledReason; Android does the same itself.
The 2024 note on #5678 mentions an infinite loop on iOS. The share extension no longer dispatches encryptionInit itself; it waits for login, and login success starts encryption. Cold-start shares to encrypted rooms ran with no loop on both platforms (see below).
Workspace with E2EE enabled, user A with the E2EE password set, an encrypted private room R with user B, and an unencrypted room C.
As A, share a photo from Photos (iOS) or Files (Android) to Rocket.Chat. R is listed and enabled, and searching for it finds it.
Send the photo to R. It shows decrypted in R. Through the API the message is t: 'e2e' and the uploaded bytes aren't a JPEG.
Share text to R. It arrives as t: 'e2e'.
Share a photo to C. It arrives as a normal image.
Force-quit the app, then share a photo to R. The share list loads once, with no loop, and the photo sends once.
Create R while B has no E2EE keys, then log in as B. In the share list R is dimmed with "Waiting for encryption keys", and tapping shows that reason as a toast instead of opening the room.
Log in as B on a device where the E2EE password hasn't been entered. R is dimmed with "Enter your E2EE password to share here". After entering the password, R is enabled.
As B, open R. A's shared photo and text are decrypted.
All 8 pass on an iPhone 17 simulator (iOS 27) and an Android emulator (API 34), debug builds, against mobile.qa. The toast on tapping a disabled row in step 6, and screen readers reading its reason, were added after that run and are covered by unit tests only.
The "Check back in a few moments" alert in ShareView wasn't triggered on a device: the share list disables those rooms first, so ShareView can't be reached for them. Unit tests cover it.

Found while verifying, not caused by this change: on a fresh form login in a debug build, E2EE keys were created locally but not uploaded until the app was relaunched and the password set manually. Worth its own issue.
Summary by CodeRabbit
New Features
Encrypted rooms now appear in the sharing list. Rooms that aren’t ready for encrypted sharing are disabled and display a reason, such as a missing password or room key.
Disabled directory items provide an accessibility hint and show the reason when tapped.
Bug Fixes
Sharing attachments is blocked when room encryption isn’t available, and an error is shown instead.
Files are no longer sent unencrypted when encryption is enabled but the room’s encryption key is missing.
Failed file uploads retain their error details for clearer recovery.
Encryption handshakes now report failures and can retry key setup.
It looks like this branch is under active development. To avoid overwhelming you with review comments due to an influx of new commits, CodeRabbit has automatically paused this review. You can configure this behavior by changing the reviews.auto_review.auto_pause_after_reviewed_commits setting.
Encryption readiness now determines whether encrypted rooms can be selected or receive shared files. The share list displays unavailable reasons, handshake failures reject readiness, and file-upload errors follow paths based on whether an upload started.

encryptFile returns the original file when workspace E2E is disabled or the room is unencrypted. It throws when an encrypted room has no session key. canSendToRoom reports room readiness. Handshake failures reject the pending readiness promise and reset handshake state.
The share-list query includes encrypted rooms and their encryption state. Unavailable rooms show a localized reason and are disabled. DirectoryItem exposes the reason as an accessibility hint and toast, and applies disabled styling on both platforms.

Encrypted rooms were hidden from the share list. They now show up, and
rooms that can't be shared to yet are disabled with the reason. Sending
waits for the room key, and encryptFile no longer uploads a plaintext
file into an encrypted room when the key is missing.
A handshake that ended without a key left concurrent callers awaiting a
readyPromise that never settled, which kept the share extension loading
overlay up forever. canSendToRoom also treats a missing subscription as
not sendable.
