### postgresql_version

You can set the version of the PostgreSQL server to 10, 12, 13, 15, 16 or 18.
On SUSE, it can be set to 16, 17 or 18, and the default is 18.

### postgresql_transactional_update_reboot_ok

This variable is used to handle reboots required by transactional updates. If a
transactional update requires a reboot, the role will proceed with the reboot if
`postgresql_transactional_update_reboot_ok` is set to `true`. If set to `false`, the
role will notify the user that a reboot is required, allowing for custom
handling of the reboot requirement. If this variable is not set, the role will
fail to ensure the reboot requirement is not overlooked. For non-transactional
update systems, this variable is ignored.

```yaml
postgresql_transactional_update_reboot_ok: true
```

Default: `null`

Add sentence that this variable is related to managed nodes that have OS with transactional updates.

to `true` to allow reboots, `false` to disallow reboots, or
leave unset so that the role will fail to ensure the reboot
requirement is not overlooked. Accepts a boolean value or `null`.
Only managed nodes whose OS uses transactional updates read it;
on other systems it is ignored.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟠 Major | 🏗️ Heavy lift

Read the SUSE major version from the server package name.

On the SLE 15 SP7 case described in the PR context, postgresql17-server reports package version 18. These lines therefore identify an installed PostgreSQL 17 server as version 18. A request for 17 fails the mismatch check, while a request for 18 can pass that check despite the installed 17 server. Extract the SUSE major version from the matched package name; retain the package-version check for platforms where its existing contract applies. Ansible exposes the package name and package version as distinct facts. (docs.ansible.com)

Update the __installed_versions logic to derive the major version from the
matched package name on SUSE, where package version can differ from the
PostgreSQL server major; preserve the existing package-version extraction for
platforms where that contract applies.

🩺 Stability & Availability | 🟠 Major | 🏗️ Heavy lift

Stop role execution when a staged package is not live and reboot is declined.

If installation stages a new server package and postgresql_transactional_update_reboot_ok is false, this task notifies the user but execution continues to initdb and service setup. The server package is not live until reboot, so those tasks can fail instead of completing the documented notify-only path. End the host’s role work after the notice, or defer package-dependent tasks until the next run. SUSE documents that a transactional update becomes active after reboot. (documentation.suse.com)

Update the flow after the reboot-needed notification task so when a staged
server package is not live and postgresql_transactional_update_reboot_ok is
false, role execution stops for that host before initdb and service setup;
preserve the existing reboot-approved path.
